Stephen Gately | New Beginning
A “New Beginning” indeed, for Boyzone member, Stephen Gately.
His debut solo album portrays a much different Stephen that you
might know from Boyzone. In fact, he so different from his Boyzone
tracks that half the time, I was wondering whether it was the same
Stephen. Since his announcement last year that he was gay,
Stephen is now like a man with no burdens on his back. It comes
through very obviously in his debut album, with many of the tracks
referring to his relationship with his partner, Eloy. The title track
has lyrics like “Seven years I’ve waited/ Seven years of holding on/
Yes it’s been/ Yes it’s been/ Always kept my faith in/ Always knew
this day would come/ Let everybody know”.
Stephen even flexes his writing skills and wrote many of the songs
in the album, including one dedicated to Eloy titled “If Only You Were Here”.
Simple, clean and self-revealing, “New Beginning” gives you a peek into what
Stephen has been thinking of these past few years. After listening to this album,
I just have this question to ask, what took you so long Stephen?
