Emblazoned across the back of Urbankarma's t-shirt, Combining eastern roots with urban attitude. True to their tagline, Urbankarma's ability to fuse these two elements together resulted in the production of Disenchanted, Alienated and Anomic.
Their album launch was highly anticipated and definitely successful overall! Made up of six creative individuals, Urbankarma is headed by Burhan who is the lyrical expressionist and guitarist for the band.
More than 100 fans, friends and even lecturers came to support the band in their fullest glory. This is especially amazing considering the fact that there was another gig happening somewhere else at the same time. Fans were spotted head banging to their songs and enjoying themselves despite the no-violent-moves rule imposed to them.
Said Burhan, I am truly very honoured and delighted at the response. The atmosphere was so overwhelming that I was nervous! And the fact is that I don't get nervous easily.
I'm proud to admit that the support for the local music scene is still there. And I hope that it will and still be the same for the rest of the scene, echoes Nazri, the guitarist of the band.
Although the guys appeared tired after the album launch cum gig, they were satisfied that they were able to give their best to the fans.
The amount of people came were more that what we expected. We hope that there are more events like this around in Singapore, remarked the ever-smiling Hairul.
The band will be playing to more gigs following this launch. Come May, Urbankarma will be participating in a music conference held by a tertiary institution. At the same time, they hope to strike distribution deals in Malaysia and Indonesia.
We at Vivamusic wish them all the best in their efforts to spread and uplift the good name of the local music scene.
Hairul : Rock On
Burhan : Thanks
Nazri : Forever Rock
Zamry : Support Local
Firdaus : Music Lives
Sukhairan : Speechless
Those are the individual wishes from the members of Urbankarma.
