Shouldn't - Acoustically Live @ The Hub
3rd September

That lazy Sunday, the people who turned up to watch Shouldn't perform live came in their most comfortable Sunday attire - berms, shorts, slippers, T-shirts and all.

Although it was quite a laid-back affair, the crowd was quite aplenty. Some were friends of the members and some were just patrons of the Hub. They were there to witness the performance of one of the upcoming group, Shouldn't. Fronted by Imran Ajmain with Huda and Nadirah by his side, Abil and Salleh on the guitars and Helmi on the percussion.

The sextet performed a total of eight songs with sounds ranging from R&B to jazz. I should say that the group succeeded in doing covers with a twist. Their rendition of "Careless Whisper" by the infamous George Michael had Huda and Nadirah on the vocals. Their deep and soulful voices added a feminine touch to the song.

"As Serious As Today" is a jazz piece punctuated with some rapping courtesy of Ishaaq from the Avant Garde. Shouldn't did a job well done on fusing these two elements together for the song. The group also performed "Turn Your Lights Down Low" by Bob Marley and "All Cried Out" by Allure & 112.

If you think that Shouldn't is good in doing covers with a facelift, think again. They also delivered their original compositions all done up with a lot of flavour and style. It seemed that every song had a history to it. Based on Imran's trials and tribulations in life, the songs also garnered its' personal fans. Each song was dedicated to a certain someone as what Imran said before the beginning of each song.

"Misshapen", "Let Her Fly" and Shouldn't signature tune "Safety" completed the whole array of songs. With proper guidance and loads of support from the local music industry, Shouldn't can definitely impact and stir the local scene with their unique brand of music.

Thumbs up to Shouldn't. It was definitely an evening filled with soul and passion. Watch out for them.
