You can never go wrong at the Vivamusic Hub if you are looking for some spinning on a Saturday evening as DJs Spruyt and Andrew took to the decks in the Box on the 14th of October. Both DJs, who hold residences in two different relatively well-known clubs in Singapore, spun for about an hour to give a different taste of music to those who were in the Hub.
The first hour saw DJ Spruyt at the helm, providing some tech house with traces of progressive in the set. His love for music, which spread beyond dancing, pushed him to take a more active role in the club scene. Having begun his act two years ago, the music in his set can vary greatly, according to the vibes of the crowd on the floor. Although he has considered the idea of wanting to pursue this interest full time, he would prefer to complete his studies for a more secure future, bearing in mind the minute industry iin Singapore.
Taking over from Spruyt was DJ Andrew, filling the Vivamusic Hub with one and a half hours of deep, dark, progressive and trippy sounds. His journey began four years ago when he started listening to the series of Renaissance CDs, becoming very impressed with the styles of John Digweed and Sasha. Besides his current residency at a club along Mohammed Sultan road, he has also spun in Samsara, Nox and Sound Industry.
With influences such as Dave Seaman who are deeply rooted in house music, Andrew has full intention to promote such sounds, eager to see more education in underground music. While he is a full time student in NUS at the moment, he is freelancing at the moment to satisfy the interest for spinning in him.
Not surprisingly, both DJs share the same sentiments; that local DJs deserve more recognition from Singaporeans, and subsequently a better response from the crowds in Singapore. I might go overseas (to pursue my interest)...although Singapore's scene is slowly growing, we really need more exposure here..at least the (overseas) scene is better than the local one, more room to expand, says Andrew after his set which ended at about 10pm.
With DJs Itchii and Gerald fom Frontallabs, com, rest assured you will be able to catch more electronic, progressive and techno in the next gig held in the Vivamusic Hub on the 21st of October.
