In The Box: DJs Dennis and Itchii, Elustix
16th, 17th September
More local music from another realm at the Vivamusic Hub as Infused
Productions presented DJs Dennis and Itchii on the 16th of September
for a 90-minute set each. Promoter and DJ for Darksun, Dennis has
always been into music, in particular progressive house and techno
which he has been spinning ever since he moved into the scene in 1993.
Stating Sasha and Soul as his major influences, Dennis has also played
at Nox, a pub alongside Mohammed Sultan road known for collaborating
sets with bedroom DJs and producers. Although this is a very time
consuming hobby, especially since it takes a lot of practice to be able
to work the crowd up, Dennis is not willing to make this into a profession.
It is more fun like this, you don't kill the passion when you are doing this
as a hobby. This is why I only spin on invites, he said when interviewed soon
after his session which ended at 7.30pm.
Next in the lineup was DJ Itchii, part of the team who co-founded Frontallabs.com
in 1999. The non-profit site, which hopes to gain awareness for up and coming
local and foreign DJs, provide a wide range of information tidbits for aspiring
talents and listeners alike. Having spun at pubs like Nox and Sluice, Itchii has
been working on his art for more than a year, beginning last July. He has also
performed for private parties and other inhouse events, preferring disco house,
progressive trance and techno to other genres available to him. With Deep Dish as
one of his major influences, Itchii intends to hone his spinning skills further,
maintaining it as an interest more than anything else.
I would like to practice my mixing and programming...to see how the music will
grow..we have made some contacts overseas, so we (Frontallabs.com) are trying to get
Singapore in the global action; let's hope this will bring local talents more
exposure and awareness. With a remix of Kyli Minogue's Spinning Around included
in his set, DJ Itchii ended his spinning a little after 9pm.
Sunday 17th September saw Elustix beginning their set in the late evening,
with Ry including notes into the typical DJ sets with his electronic keyboard.
Aloysius, Nux, Ry and Xz-ez, bonded with the common ground of all things tech,
played remixes and tracks from tribal to house and trance until 10pm. With them
ending off the weekend highlights on a different note, the next event to look
out for in the Hub is the DJ workshop organised by turntable maestro Andrew
Chow on Saturday, 23rd of September.
