In the third week of the Solace installment, DJ Yang was brought into the Vivamusic Hub for a three hour set of Techno, a differentiation from the first two sets of progressive brought by the team of Solace DJs.
This being his eighth year of spinning, Yang has progressed from progressive then psychedelic trance before settling with techno. It was natural for me to move on, since it is quite hard to pigeon hole such music. Some labels are moving onto different levels as well.
His friendship with the Solace team being a vital factor to him joining the group, Yang's influences include Christian Smith and his all time favourite track, New Order's Confusion. He finds such music innovative, and does not feel practicing his spinning a difficult thing to do, despite a hectic schedule from his full time activity. I am purely a bedroom DJ, so there is no target for me. I would rather let nature take its course, commenting, at the same time, on the possibility of being a DJ overseas.
Everyone says foreign DJs are much better, but I feel we might be better than them in certain areas as well. Although they have a larger crowd which gives them the right kind of support, the scene (over there) is, in its own way, struggling as well, bringing another light of perspective to the often repeated chant that Singaporeans should get some exposure from the scene overseas.
With uplifting records and juggling beats, DJ Yang certainly stood out from The Box on a Saturday night. For the last round of spinning at The Box from the Solace DJs, catch Ops and Adrian on the 25th of November at the Vivamusic Hub from 7pm to 10pm.
